Marriage, also known as Holy Matrimony, is a sacramental rite of the Orthodox Church, by which two people (a male and a female) become “one flesh,” as said by our Lord Jesus Christ, through a mysterious union of love and companionship. Marriage between a man and a woman is also an analogy, of the mystical union and relationship between Christ and His Church (Ephesians 5:32). “The two shall become one flesh; so then they are no longer two, but one flesh” (Mark 10:8).
