St. Polycarp of Smyrna (69 — 155 AD) was the disciple of St. John the Apostle, and was ordained by John, becoming the bishop of Smyrna in the 2nd century. Receiving the Crown of Martyrdom, Polycarp is reckoned by the Orthodox Church as a saint.
